Building a Stronger Support Network with CAREkaki Training

Our Blog

Caring for caregivers and families of persons with disabilities requires a strong, compassionate community. Recognising the importance of community leadership in fostering inclusion and support, CaringSG recently conducted a CAREkaki training session for community leaders and volunteers at Jurong Central.

What is CAREkaki?

CaringSG’s CAREkaki Programme goes beyond traditional volunteering—it builds a network of trained community leaders and volunteers dedicated to fostering inclusive neighbourhoods. Volunteers undergo structured and specialised training to enhance their understanding of caregiving challenges and learn how to connect caregivers with available resources, ensuring they receive the right support when they need it.

By empowering volunteers with the skills and knowledge to assist caregivers, CAREkaki bridges the gap between families and the community, creating a more sustainable and compassionate support system.

A Meaningful Learning Experience

The training session was highly interactive, with volunteers engaging in real-life case discussions and open sharing sessions. These activities helped participants learn how to organise inclusive events, gain deeper insights into the caregiver experience and develop practical strategies to provide meaningful assistance.

The training also equipped participants with essential knowledge on disability awareness, the importance of peer support and inclusion, and how community volunteers can play a vital role in building a more inclusive and connected society with CaringSG, the Enabling Services Hubs and community partners.

Volunteers also shared their own experiences and perspectives, reinforcing the importance of empathy, active listening, and a community-first approach to supporting caregivers.

Commitment to Supporting Caregivers

The participation of the community volunteers in this CAREkaki training reflects their dedication to strengthening caregiving support within their communities. Their commitment to understanding and addressing the needs of caregivers highlights the power of community leaders in creating a more inclusive and supportive society.

CaringSG extends its heartfelt gratitude to all community leaders and volunteers for their time, enthusiasm, and dedication. Your efforts help to strengthen the support system for caregivers and families, ensuring that no one has to navigate their caregiving journey alone.
